It fits my six year old but the hip belt could be just a little higher in order to help him balance his load better. Other than that it looks like it should expand to fit him for years to come. Great amount of room for a younger hiker considering you don't want to over load a small child, but it could be a little lacking in the c.i. department as he becomes able to carry a larger load. The aluminum bar is pointless unless you consider recycling it.
